If you are a highly motivated gym fanatic and really have a goal to lose weight, having your own home gym will really make a difference and add to your convenience in training. Though it can be quite expensive, conveniences like not having to get stuck at traffic while heading for the gym, or fitting your schedule to meet your gym program and waiting in queue for your next turn in using the equipment, I think is worth enough the price.


One good question to ask now is how to get started with a home gym. Getting started means conditioning the body so it may not get forced with first time gym effort.


Any complete exercise program has three main parts. Giving the body a complete workout does not mean daily strenuous exercise. In fact, using a home gym, even in limited space, can lead your way to fitness.


Building a home gym is not like a fashion statement or just getting into the trend. Home gym should be targeted based on your body needs. To burn fat effectively regular cardio, heart/lung, workouts must be done. You don’t have to run for two hours a day to get that. This means that regular exercise will do the trick.


Having a treadmill, stepper or bike is great. To burn fat, do enough to break a light sweat. Sustaining this level for at least an hour is preferable. 3-4 times a week is enough.


As you get fitter, increase the speed or resistance at which you work to maintain the fat burning level. Burning calories at a constant level will give you the weight lose you are aiming for.


The second part is muscle conditioning. This is achieved by resistance training, in slow controlled movements. Anything adding resistance to a movement does this, weights, push ups, rowing machine, serve as examples.


Regular sets of repetitions, in which the resistance increases and not the repetitions, can take as little as 30 minutes 3-4 times a week.


Stretching comes next. The third step should come after warm up and cool down. Stretching lengthens muscles and eases soreness.


All of this can be done in the comfort of your own home gym. Consult your doctor before getting started in the home gym as to set limitations specially when you have health problems like cardio problems which may get way with your training.
